My Foray into Jewelry

Ever since we started jewelry-making in school I've been kind of obsessed. I've been seriously considering turning my new-found love for making jewelry into a little business. Potential piece for sale?

Double ring with 2 ways to wear it! (Comment if you'd like to puchase!)

My Menswear Design

With the help of Jesse our model and Veronica our photographer, we were able to put together a pretty impressive photo shoot for our menswear mini-line. Here are some shots of my outfit- designed, pattern drafted and constructed entirely by yours truly.

"Shoellery"

I saw these when I was out shopping a little while ago and meant to post them but kept forgetting to... but I just thought they were the coolest thing! Erica Giuliani has a line of shoe accessories or "shoellery" so you can buy one pair of plain shoes, some different accessories and look like you have a different pair of shoes every time you go out! With a variety of clips, heel rings, strap accessories and cuffs, the possibilities are almost endless! If you're skeptical about how they look- I've seen them in person and I must say that they actually attach and blend in so seamlessly well into almost any shoe that it actually does look like that's how the shoe was originally made. Take a look for yourself!

The Joys of Regretsy

I was recently told about this site called regretsy which basically just finds the ridiculous things people make and sell on etsy and adds hilarious commentary and I've gotta say, I think I may be hooked. Just to give you all a feel for it, here was one of the most amusing things I came across.

And yes, it's ok to laugh.

Lipstick Heel Shoes by Alberto Guardiani

If you happen to be in the Paris area, I'd recommend going into the boutique Colette and taking a peek at these shoes (and maybe pick me up a pair?) So girly and so cute! And so French.

Charlie, Charlie, Charlie...

To add to the non-stop string of shenanigans of Hollywood's favourite party-animal, Charlie Sheen, he has apparently now filed a huge lawsuit against Warner Brothers just days after being fired from Two and a Half Men once and for all. I guess after losing his kids and his job, he could really use a win... but at least now he has time for more "Winning Recipes" videos like this one (for funnyordie.com).

Starbucks updates their cup design for 40th anniversary

For all you coffee addicts out there it looks like this is what you'll be drinking out of from now. While they only seem to have simplified the design we have all come to know and recognize from a mile away (maybe it's some sort of experiment to see if we'd still recognize it without the name?), I can't really say I'm a fan. Like I've said before, I guess I'm just a creature of habit! Nobody likes change...

As well, between 2-5pm from March 10-12 at participating locations, Starbucks will be giving out free cake-pops or "petites" as they call them with the purchase of any beverage. So incase you're bummed about the new cup design, maybe a petite will help ease the pain.

C is for cookie, that's good enough for me...

Do you like Subway? Do you like COOKIES?! If so, then you're going to want to give this a read:

You're welcome!

Oh hello bagel... have you lost weight?

I have recently found in my parents' kitchen one of the most surprising foods I have ever come across perhaps in my entire lifetime- the bagel thin. It looks like lovechild of a bagel and a pita (it is literally just a bagel that looks like it has been flattened to half it's size) and has a slightly crispier, almost cracker-like taste than the bagels we all know and love. While my immediate reaction was "my beloved bagel- what have they done to you?!", I suppose they fill a need for a lower calorie bagel. Personally, as a regular bagel-enthusiast I don't know if this is something I could get used to because I will always be a fan of the original, but my parents seem to love them. I guess I'm just a creature of habit.

A Guide to Smart Shopping

For those of you who know me you probably know that I rarely pay full price for anything I buy and take pride in my smart-shopping skills (what can I say, it's practically in my blood!) so I thought I'd take the opportunity to pass along some of my pearls of wisdom to help the rest of you get the biggest bang for your buck! Because if you're like me and also a student with a no job, a part-time job or an internship (which loosely translated means working for free) then I'm sure you're always looking for ways to stretch the dollar! So here are a few of mine:

1. Scope out the sales
Many of you I'm sure already know this one, but it is tried and true. I know that sifting through messy sale racks is a pain, but sometimes you can find some awesome things for great prices! In that messy pile is usually always a hidden gem.

2. Always keep the receipts
Sometimes you buy something and then the next time you're out shopping you see that the same thing you just bought went on sale, and you paid full price for it! Since this is obviously unacceptable, bring it back to the store with the receipt and more often than not you can return it and rebuy it for less, or get a price adjustment.

3. Sign up for mailing lists
It usually only takes a few seconds and while most of the e-mails may just be trash, stores will often let you know about upcoming sales, promotions and sometimes they will even send you coupons!

4. Keep your eyes open
Sometimes you can find coupons in places like magazines or newspapers (school newspapers too!)

5. Buy it used
You can save a ton of money by buying almost anything pre-loved but still in great condition. Thrift stores are awesome for finding cheap and unique fashions, and many electronics stores sell everything from used movies, games, CD's etc. for great prices! You would also be surprised at the sweet deals you can find on websites like Craigslist and Ebay, and as an added bonus you're being eco-friendly and reducing waste by reusing old things instead of buying new ones. Three cheers for being smart AND environmentally friendly!

6. Wait it out
We all fall victim to impulse buys at some point or other and then later regret it (yes even me), so a good way to avoid this is if it's not an urgent need, just leave it. Let a day or two go by, and if you're still thinking about that item go back to the store, and if you're still just as much in love with it then buy it. If you don't remember it after some time goes by then chances are you're better off without having bought it.

7. Think hard
Ask yourself, do I need this? Will I wear this? Is it different from the things I already have? If the answer to any of these questions is no, then maybe consider putting it back.

8. When in doubt, ask!
Some stores like Club Monaco offer a 20% discount off regular-priced AND sale items to university and college students with a valid student ID. Score!

So there you have it, the secret's out! Maybe one day you'll be bragging to ME about all the good deals YOU get!

Here's a recent steal of a deal of my own- chunky gold faceted ring from Club Monaco, regularly $39, and I paid just $7.20! (And yes I am wearing it with OPI's black shatter!)

The solution to your boring nail woes

If you're as nail-obsessed as I am then you're probably already familiar with OPI's awesome new collaboration with the fun and fierce Katy Perry. The colours are as flashy as she is with fun, bright colours and all kinds of sparkle and shine, but what I am totally obsessing over is the Black Shatter, which when applied to dry nails creates a literally "shattered" and almost animal print-like effect. I just tried it out today for the first time and it actually does work and looks every bit as cool as it does in pictures! Layer it over any of the Katy Perry colours and you'll be sure to have nails that rival even Katy herself. Killer nail art without the hassle and price of a salon? Yes please!

Spring is on it's way.... hopefully

Baby's First Post!

Hello lovelies and welcome to In The Flo- a collection of awesomeness as decided by yours truly for your viewing pleasure! To dive right into things, my latest obsession is Sephora's brand-spankin'-new collaboration with the ever-adorable and iconic Hello Kitty! I first saw this months ago and was so excited for it to come out and now it's finally here! I have not yet gone to the store and seen or tested any of the items but at first glance some of my faves include the Say Hello Palette, Nail Art Stickers and the Jeweled Compact Mirror-- so adorable! For the make-up and Hello Kitty enthusiasts out there it's like a dream come true and a second chance if you missed out or ran out of the Hello Kitty for MAC products. Now if I could only get my hands on some money to actually buy some of it... More to come once I actually see and test products out for myself, but really, could anything Hello Kitty be disappointing?! I think not!

Want more? Visit http://sephora.com/browse/brand_hierarchy.jhtml?brandId=Hello%20Kitty for the complete product line!
